Grow a Garden 2 Pet Variants and Rarity Guide

A pet's species is only the first roll. Size and Rainbow variants can stack on top, changing both rarity and passive strength.

First rarity layer

Size

Big or Huge

Variant

Rainbow can stack

The Short Answer

Grow a Garden 2 pet rarity is layered. First you roll the species, then the pet can also be Big or Huge, and Rainbow can stack separately. That means a common species with a rare variant can be more interesting than a normal version of a higher-tier pet, depending on your goal.

Community pages may say Mega while current pet data often labels the top size as Huge. Treat them as the same practical size concept unless the live game UI shows a different term.

Variant Types

VariantMeaningPractical effect
NormalBaseline pet sizeUses the pet's standard passive value.
BigLarger and rarer than normalCurrent pet records describe Big boosts as roughly 2x for many passives.
Huge / MegaLargest size tierCurrent pet records describe Huge boosts as roughly 3x; some community pages call this Mega.
RainbowSeparate visual/stat rollAdds a 1.25x boost and can stack with size variants.

Ability Scaling Examples

Different pets scale different passives, so do not use one pet as proof for every pet. The current records are strongest when a pet page lists its own variant math.

Owl

View distance at night

A Huge Rainbow Owl example reaches 46.875% view distance in the current pet detail.

Monkey

Fruit pickup frequency

Huge Rainbow Monkey is described as picking fruit 3.75x as often.

Robin

Seed-drop frequency after trashing fruit

Huge Rainbow Robin is described as dropping seeds 3.75x as often.

Turtle

Backpack space

Huge Rainbow Turtle is described as +120 backpack space, with the walk speed penalty still applying.

How to Judge a Rare Pet Claim

  1. Separate species rarity from size and Rainbow variant rarity.
  2. Check whether the source is using Huge, Mega, or another label for the largest size.
  3. Use the pet database for the base species row first.
  4. Confirm the current pet page before paying a trade premium for a specific variant.

If you are still collecting your first useful pets, the pet guide and egg hatch odds guide are better starting points than rarest-pet rankings.

Trading and Value Safety

  • A screenshot of a rare variant is not enough to prove current value.
  • Live community rarity indexes can move as more pets are hatched.
  • Ability value depends on your build: Turtle helps inventory, Owl helps night awareness, Monkey helps fruit collection, and defenders help protect crops.
  • Do not pay for a variant unless you understand both its rarity and its actual passive gain.
